Guest world. I was graciously given a gift card from my colleagues at Bank Street College of Education in the Center for Urban Teacher Education and Technology or CUTET upon the completion of my time there this semester. I have spent the past two academic years working with graduate students, faculty members and students providing support and guidance with all things technology. Together we promoted research methods, use of technology as a teacher leadership tool and the use of technology in professional development just to name a few of our services.

But enough about that, let's get to the food.

We secured an 8:15 p.m. reservation and were asked to take a seat at the bar while they readied our table. This was a funny start to the evening: Guy ordered two Knob Creek Manhattans on the rocks and the bartender couldn't find any sweet vermouth. Good times. They evening borrowed it from Billy's next store. They were delicious.

The host retrieved us from the bar and walked us through the dining room to table 108-my new favorite place to eat. A table that can probably accommodate three people, but perfect for two, seated in the corner of the restaurant where Hudson, 9th and 14th come together at their intersection. Wonderful spot. I highly recommend it.

We started with a medium guacamole and ordered the SMOKED CHICKEN FLAUTAS:
tomatillo-avocado salsa, pickled red cabbage, with crema to share before our entree. Yummy little bites of smoked chicken wrapped in a fried piece of tortilla with the delicate tomatillo-avocado salsa. Just two that was enough.

Then for dinner, Guy ordered the Chicken Tinga: pulled chicken simmered with chipotles, sweet and spicy roasted tomato sauce. I chose the COCHINITA PIBIL: yucatecan pit-barbecue style pork, achiote, habanero pickled red onions both came served with mexico city street corn, refried pinto beans, spicy cabbage slaw, warm corn tortillas. Delicious.

Just before our entrees arrived we were introduced to Zach, one of the managers who came out and spoke with us for a while and invited us back to experience the restaurant again and again. It was a nice personal tough.

Not usually a dessert person, but we thought we would try the dark and white chocolate fondue. YAY! Zach also sent out the OAXACAN CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE
rich chocolate mousse layer cake, hint of morita chile, served with pistachio ice cream. So, now you would think that chocolate mousse layer cake would be thick and rich. It was light and fluffy and the perfect end to a great meal.

Check came and the $100 gift card covered the entire meal. Wow right? Amazing. Just before we exited we did ask if we can, in the future, request that table. It was a great choice to be seated there during our first experience at this newly opened location. I wish them well. See you again real soon.

Good Restaurant

89 Greenwich Avenue
New York, NY 10014
(212) 691-8080

www.goodrestaurantnyc.com

Saturday night, at the bar, almost no one is in sight, except a handsome bartender with a big smile, a delicious beverage and food menu to be studied before selections made. I choose the St. Germain Manhattan. Fantastic choice as I am a Manhattan connoisseur. Over the past few months, while packing on a few extra pounds to get through the hibernation period of winter in New York, I have had the pleasure of tastefully monitoring the mixology of the Manhattan around the island of Manhattan. I will say, "Good Restaurant is in the top ten."

So then on to the food. The GRILLED CALAMARI salad with roasted red peppers, olives, capers, basil & lemon. Although it was listed under the salads no the menu, I expected there to be some kind of heat on the plate and that was my one criticism. Other than that, the flavors all worked nicely together. No need for additional seasoning.

Next up: Naturally-raised NEW YORK STRIP STEAK parmesan fries & chanterelle mushroom butter. Ok, so I treated myself to a piece of red meat. And, BOY was I happy. Ordered it black and blue and it came out perfectly prepared with the chanterelle mushroom butter on top. The parmesan fries were dusted with cheese and fried up to perfection. The bartender brought me some spicy mustard and I was in heaven. A glass of Argentinian Malbec accompanied my entree.

No dessert this time. There was room for an Irish Coffee before Guy joined me for what would have been a nightcap here, but following last call, we ended the night at Niso's with Josh for one last cocktail.

A good night.

Next stop: DOS CAMINOS-MEATPACKING

TIPSY PARSON (156 Ninth Avenue)

Ok kids, if you haven't been to this find on the Manhattan Foodscape, you have to get there. There are many offerings on the tight menu, but everything is delicious.

Last evening, a cold evening in Manhattan, Guy made reservations for 7:30 and we were seated immediately. It was a quiet night with only four or five other tables seated around us. Each time we go to Tipsy Parson, we notice the heat works-REALLY WELL. But it gets better each time.

We started with a sidecar martini, and that is just where we started. Guy had the Ambrosia Salad which is a deconstructed take on the classic dessert side dish. I opted for the Warm Spinach Salad. Both were yummy. Oh wait, did I forget to mention that we had cheese sticks and hush puppies to tide us over before our salad? WOW! YUMMY! D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!!

Then, the Braised Pork Shank with melted apples was Guy's choice for entree. Falling off the bone and deliciously surrounded by essence of apples. I chose the Duck Breast with a Concord Grape reduction and roasted grapes. The perfect accompaniment was a glass of Pinot Noir.
WOW! Unbelievable.

Unlike our other visit, we both wanted dessert. Guy ordered the lemon custard tart and I the bourbon fritters. Both pleased the crowd.

Get there please! NOW!!!

Tell them Mr. B. sent you!!!

My Bio

Steven Birkeland, born Steven Matthew Birkeland on May 14, 1972 in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York at Southside Hospital to Diane and Steve Birkeland of Bayport, Long Island, New York.

Steven attended Academy Street Elementary school from 1977 to 1983 where he excelled in his leadership abilities at an early age. I know I haven't put anything up in almost a month. This is the time of year when I recharge my soul at the beach and take pictures, try out new recipes, talk, laugh and love at the beach on Fire Island. This year Guy and I took a half share in a house in the Fire Island Pines. Have met so many interesting new friends and plan to meet more when I return on Saturday the 15th.

Friday, August 14, 2009, marks my sister's fifth wedding anniversary and the wedding of my dear friend Sharon to Karim. They are celebrating at the Giraffe Hotel (26th and Park Avenue South) with a party under the stars. Cannot wait to see what a beautiful bride she will make and how happy Karim will make her as he continues to do each day.

Saturday, August 15, 2009 is the return to the beach. Having breakfast with a buddy at 7:30 at Nussbaum and Wu before an 8:23 train to Sayville to connect with the 10:30 ferry to the beach.

Two weeks ago, met a group guy by the name of Bret Koehler who may help me out with my next venture in life. Thinking beach side cooking show. Starting out at the Pines and then travelling around the country and possibly the world. Post your comments.

Until then, I am writing to you from the beautiful campus of Adelphi University in Garden City where I work with 400 international students for an orientation to the United States of America with PAX (Program for Academic Exchange). pax.org

Have a great rest of the week.

Until the next time, keep your toes in the sand and allow for the sea breeze to keep your spirits high.

SMB

Angelina's Pizza Bar

Broadway between 104 and 105, July 21, 2009.

815 pm. A sizable crowd of varied you and old, singles, families and a nice buzz throughout.

I ordered a gin and tonic (T&T) to start and perused the menu. Yummy selections for an anti paste, salads, pasta and then pizza both personal and regular with a choice of traditional or extra thin.

I chose the tomato salad which was described on the menu as having tomatoes and vidallia onions, basic and cucumber (vidallias were red onions tonight-but it was still delicious) a little salt, a little red paper flake and the seasoned olive oil that dressed the plate came to life. The basil made the dish. Surprise on the plate is what seemed to be toasted brioche as the toast points. While surprising delicious and decadent, not what I would suspect in a PIZZA shop!

As the crowds came and went, the atmosphere at the bar changed with a couple of "businessmen at the end having a Patron (tequila) on the rocks and an Absolut and Cranberry-both in wine glasses. I wanted to ask, "Who are you hiding from.

At approximately 850 music emerged above the chatter of the crowd as I waited for my personal, thin crust Nonna (mushrooms, artichokes). I ordered my second T&T.

Said to be their most popular pizza, the Nonna does not disappoint. Although it would have been better had the artichokes been baked on the pie, rather than tossed on as an after thought, the cheese was perfectly melted, the sauce perfectly balanced and the crust, as it should be in a wood burning oven, charred with flavor! A little parm, some red pepper flakes and a touch of salt, brought out the flavor in every bite. The bartender suggested the house red, a sangiovese which was a great compliment to the pie.

Let's look at dessert...

Dessert? Canoli's of course! Amazingly stuff and served with raspberries, blueberries, cocoa power, chocolate sauce and whipped cream! A nice short rocks glass of Frangelico accompanied my final course!

Met a lovely lady visiting from Perth, Australia who just happened to be in the neighborhood and staying by herself. She stumbled upon the establishment and came in for the lasagna. She thoroughly enjoyed it. As did I.

Off to home and bed. WE made it to one year! Guy and I met at ELMO to celebrate our one year anniversary. Hello FROZEN POMEGRANITE MARGARITAs! Yummy. We secured a table out front and had a wonderful dinner after having been away from each over for almost a week. There is an unresolved issue that is affecting his time at the beach with me. But, let's focus on the current topic.

Sat down and mentioned to the manager that we were celebrating our one year anniversary and he sent his congratulations. The server asked us if we needed some time or had any questions. We ordered the Spring Rolls, deliciously wrapped vegetables with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Followed by two fish dishes from the menu, Guy: the roasted Mahi Mahi and Steven: Crab Salad on focaccia with FRENCH FRIES-you know I cannot resist them. Followed by a pecan chocolate brownie with pecan ice cream. Delicious. The manager sent over two glasses of prosecco to help us celebrate our anniversary. What a great dinner.

We will be back soon.

Then we went out and got our drink on and ended up at THE VIEW having frozen margaritas until 2 am. If you haven't visited or know anything about the Pines, it is a community comprised of homes inhabited by gay men who escape from the confines of city life and search for laughter and companionship.

Guy and I have taken a half share this summer. That means ten weeks during the summer alternating every other beginning Memorial Day. The weather this past weekend was incredible and we could not have asked for more. Guy chose to stay in the city and watch the fireworks over the Hudson River-commemorating the 400th anniversary of its' discovery.

I arrived on Thursday at 11:50 off the ferry after a quick express train out from Penn Station to Sayville. A quick five dollar/five minute shuttle ride and on the ferry I went. I arrived at the house with my ingredients to make the house snack: GUACAMOLE! Yummy. No cilantro in my, and lots of extra lime just to keep an extra day. Thursday night was low tea and then home to cook.

Friday was a day of leisure. A little shopping in town, some consuming of cocktails in the afternoon around the pool, pre tea and then enjoying the fantastic weather that was offered for us to enjoy our time out. Some other housemates joined on Friday and made for a night big meal at night.

Saturday (JULY 4th) the 34th annual Invasion of the Pines took place. In history, as I have heard it told, a group of drag queens boarded a ferry and hijacked it over from Cherry Grove to the Fire Island Pines on July 4th, 1975. The INVADED the all male gay clubs and caused a scene with their outlandish outfits and attitudes as big as their wigs. It was a blast. This year I did not attend. After so many years of hanging out in the harbor, I needed a break and relaxed by the pool at the house and took in a little reading. In the evening though, a housemate and I wearing the same t shirt invaded tea and had a blast saying LET'S HUG IT OUT! Lots of fun. Saw lots of familiar and STRANGE faces. And, some faces I have not seen in a really long time. RIBS for dinner late-I think we sat down around the table at 11:30 and laughed and ate until almost one a.m.

Sunday, Rick's birthday celebration cocktail party in the afternoon. About 2:10 in the afternoon there was a pull on the door and the gate opened to reveal friends with smiles and bathing suits reading to enjoy a libation around the deck outside the house. TEA followed and then dinner back at the house. Hello Sip N Twirl!!! Just went for a drink or two and to talk with some friends. Then back to bed.

Monday, a glorious day under the sun, allowed for another day of relaxation, reading and some pre coverage of the Michael Jackson Memorial Service that was to take place in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Nap time! A dip in the pool, a soak in the hot tub, show and then off to TEA for one drink and back to the house for dinner. Yummy.

Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a thunderstorm warning with heavy rain and winds up to 60 miles per hour. Watched the VIEW for a while and then outside to read until the storms present. Bright sun and then clouds until about 3 p.m. after hanging around the pool. Pack up the blackberry, my book, the cushions and bring down the umbrella before heading inside to catch the last few minutes of the Michael Jackson service. Touching. Symbolic. DEAD.
After the storm, which was really just rain for the most part, passed, a housemate and I walked down to the harbor to grab a drink at TEA and take a picture or two at sunset. Amazing sunset after a rainstorm. There are always clouds still in the sky. Took our drinks to CROWN and hung out with some friends and laughed about the events of the weekend. Then, back to the house to pack, heat up some leftovers and make time for sleep before catching the ferry in the am. I did manage to squeeze in a little pool before bedtime. Didn't win, but had a blast.

6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 time to get up. Put the egg dish in the oven and go back to bed for an hour. Up at 7:42 and a housemate had already helped themselves to the first piece. Not my best work by far, but needed a little nourishment before the long ride home. Closed up the house, said "SEE YA LATER" to the pool and headed down to the harbor. Ferry departed at 8:55 back to Sayville and was nicely returned to Manhattan by 11:10 by a housemate. We laughed and tried to get ready to return to reality.

Fire Island PINES: PARADISIO!!!!

Bistro Ten 18

After a long day at school and then working on the campus of Bank Street College of Education, one of my colleagues and dear friends from PS MS 31 in the Bronx with whom I work, surprised me in the technology office after her interview for the new Autism Program at BSC. We chatted for a while and then decided to grab something to eat. The Upper West Side, really? For food? I hopped on Opentable.com and checked out the offerings in the area. Every day, while taking the M4 bus from 110 and Lenox to Broadway I pass by Bistro Ten 18, which I always assumed was the address. Here is what we had.

A great experience. We were greeted at the front door with a smile and a chuckle. After reading my preferences, the server noted that they do not have any booths, but did offer a comfortable table by the window which we accepted. Menus and wine list were presented immediately and water was poured before asking preference-not a critique, just an observation. Rochelle and I looked over the menu and decided we were hungry but not famished. We decided on three items from the charcuterie (aged, dried Lamb, Ham and Chorizo) and the Mac and Cheese to have as our appetizers. Cornichons, pearl onions and olives with a spicy mustard (ala deli) accompanied the meats and delicious, warm bread arrived at the table.

Our main course consisted of a Gorgonzola burger on brioche with two sides: beer battered onion rings and their spiced fries with a spicy aioli and ketchup as dipping sauces. Delicious! For dessert, even though we shouldn't have, we ordered the Bistro Brownie Sundae with Vanilla Gelato, Chocolate Sauce and Rum Soaked Cherries. Yumo! Get there sometime soon. It was the perfect accompaniment to the laughter and conversation we shared over dinner. Energetic space with enough background noise to conceal your conversation and feel comfortable talking to the person next to you. If I tell you, I might have to kill you! Only kidding. Go there.

Bistro Ten 18
1018 Amsterdam Avenue
New York, NY 10025
Cross Street: 110th Street
212.662.7600

p.s. I left my water bottle for the gym behind and will be going back there before class tonight to retrieve it. Good times.

ROBBERY

After coming home following a long day at school, I made some guacamole and then decided to head to the gym (CRUNCH, West 83rd Street). At shortly after 9:00 p.m. I entered the locker room and took over my sweaty clothes and walked over to get a plastic bag to place them in before putting them in my JACK SPADE bag. I bumped into a guy in the locker room wearing a black button down shirt, dark pants and holding what looked to be an empty gym bag. He said excuse me and walked past me. I looked him straight in the eye. While I was placing my belongings in my locker, he was loitering in the back of the room, but I paid him no mind. I went to shower and came back to the lockers.

I noticed my shorts were wedged between the mirror and the bench and thought that was odd, since I had placed them in the locker before going to shower. I looked at my locker. The lock was torn off, the latch was busted and upon further observation, my debit card, blackberry and $300 in cash were missing. I know, stupid me for having that much cash, but I honestly forgot to leave it at home and it was in a safe place, so I thought. The police came and took a report. ATT was great about suspending my service and sending me a new phone (I SHOULD BE BACK IN BUSINESS TOMORROW (tuesday)). Citibank was great about sending me a new card and blocking my account.

Thank you Detective Galan for your help and hard work. I hope we get an arrest sometime this week... Now, I am wearing a fanny pack at the gym. NOT SO MUCH! Good times.

Spring Carnival, Bronx, NY (PS MS 31)

The staff of PS MS 31 in the South Bronx hosted the third annual Spring Carnival to celebrate our school community on Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 12:30-5:00. It was an amazing night. We had 7:15 reservations, so of course, as those of you know me, I was early. I sat at the bar and had an amazing Blackberry (boy do I miss mine-story to come) Margarita while I waited for sister to arrive. She arrived promptly at 7:15

We sat and as we are both creatures of habit, we had both looked at the menu the night before on line. Good times. We are definitely related! I ordered a blackberry mojito and my sister a cranberry and ginger ale-she was driving although she did have a taste and enjoyed my sugar cane stick! We decided on the lobster stuffed avocado and plantains and guacamole to munch on before our main courses. Sandi ordered the Paella and the Oxtail Stew for myself. Yumo! (YES, I CANNOT STAND RACHEL RAY!).

Then, when we were finished, we considered looking at the dessert menu. And waited... And Waited... AND WAITED... INTRODUCE SINGING AND CANDLE AND FLAN! I had mentioned in my opentable reservation that we were celebrating my sister's birthday. Four servers came out and sang at the top of the lungs-embarrassed? Not a chance. Have you met my sister and I? LOL!

The bill did not break that bank and we had a great time. Head to Havana Central when you have a chance. The Upper West Side location in the West End building has live music and a great bar scene. Union Square has a small bar in the window/entrance and the Times Square location is also busy. Check it out!

Saturday May 16, 2009

After surviving the night at REM for a sleep study to address my snoring and perhaps the presence of Sleep Apnea, I headed downtown to have breakfast at the University Diner on University Place and East 12th Street down the street from my gym: CRUNCH. Monday night Guy and I had a wonderful dinner Monday night at Almond, a friend's restaurant of the same name as the one situated on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton, New York. Just as we love it there, we love it here.

We started with a drink at the bar, after I was a little late because of skip stop subway fiasco. Maker's Mark Manhattan before I sat got the edge off before dinner.

Eric came over with a big smile after having returned from the movies and then we were seated at a great table in the corner of the restaurant. Pomegranate Martini's started the meal before we ordered.

Appetizers: Steamed Artichoke with Four Dipping Sauces and Salt Cod Fritters. What would happen to you if you bought into the theory or thought that life has to end in the suburbs and you have to 'settle down?" Some of us might commit suicide while others of us may try and escape to a place where we can "feel alive" again and truly "experience life" on all that it is supposed to be. What is next for us all? Life? Living? Depression? Isn't it wonderful to be able to say what is on your mind all of the time than wrestle with your emotions to save face? I think so. Go and see this movie is you are a citizen of the world and have a need for clarity in your life. Do not wait and do not collect $200 dollars when you pass go this time around. Get yourself to the movies and see Revolutionar Road. You will not be sorry.

I truly enjoyed the struggle of the man with his temptations both physical and inhis career. Although Kate Winslet will be up for an Academy Award for her performance as the troubled housewife, Leonardo DiCaprio performan an equally compelling role as the perplexed husband wanting to provide for his family while working with the boys cluib at work. Driving north on Rt. 114 from East Hampton to Sag Harbor, you pass miles and acres of farm land, pine trees and homes, mostly empty because of the weather and time of year. When you arrive in Sag Harbor, just over the hill into town, you notice Christmas tree decorations, movement and the hope of some kind of human activity. We found this activity at Tutto Il Giorno on the Eve of New Year's Eve.

I noticed the lights on the sign hanging on the front of the building and said to Guy, "MAKE A LEFT!" We turned around and made our way to a welcoming sight; people laughing, a roaring fireplace and a few friendly faces who would bring us wonderful food and wine during the next ninety minutes.

Dinner started with rock shrimp and calamari lightly fried with a marinara dipping sauce and beef carpaccio with caper berries, cheese crisp and shredded zucchini. Entrees included grilled swordfish with caramelized cauliflower and micro greens and the wonderful rigatoni with sweet sauce, peas, carrots in a light red sauce. Yummy. Dessert complimented the meal with a light, fluffy pana cotta served coated with raspberry sauce and chiffonade of fresh mint. Yummy. Find this place and go. Whatever it is called these days, just because it is a weekend, doesn't mean it has to be BRUNCH.

The staff were push and forced me to sit at our specifically reserved table (made the reservation on opentable.com and I always ask for a booth or banquette). But anywho, enough about me. Offerings were something for everyone. I started with the Tomatoe Soup-although presentation was lacking, the taste was very delicious with seven grain bread and cheddar cheese (although not my favorite it worked with the soup today). Guy had the shaved fennel salad and did not complain.

Entrees were a smoked salmon and bagel plate and I had the lamb sandwich with house made chips. Both were adequate at best, although there could have been more chips.

Bloody Mary's weren't spicy enough for Guy and the waitress forgot to ask me if I would like another drink before dropping the check. On a scale of 1-5 I would rate this a 1.5 at best. We might, or I might, try it again something upstairs and see if the rating changes.

Sorry for the lapse of entires

Hello all,

I have been absent from this site for a while since the end of the Summer and will be getting back to it shortly. Arrived back in Manhattan on Friday afternoon to sleep and relax after a week of working orientation with 400 international students who will enjoy being hosted by families around the country. From places like Alaska or California to New Jersey and Maine, these students will be given the opportunity to explore our culture, education and living experiences while working with families in our great country. The week started for me on Monday with my friend Rebecca on the Long Island Railroad bound for Garden City, Long Island. We checked in and then spent some downtime reading under the sun before our first of several meetings would commence for the week.

Tuesday, I was helping with registration and part of the WELCOME WAGON as the students arrived at the University City and then checked into their door rooms for the weeks' stay.

Wednesday was a full days' tour of Manhattan. Included in our trip was the Empire State Building, Times Square, Plant Hollywood for lunch, a walking tour of Central Park, Ground Zero, Chinatown and finally South Street Seaport. Lots of fun.

Thursday was orientation day for the students and small breakout workshops before a BBQ and DISCO. We did finally get off campus for a nice glass of wine at the end of the night before staying up all night to make sure the students boarded their buses for their destinations.

Friday; my crew departed the university at about 8:00 for Pennsylvania Station where they would board an 11:30 a.m. train for Brattlesboro, VT. All we accounted for and I am looking forward to the adventure again next year. Perhaps, next year with a large role in the organization of the daily activities.

Bottino 07/24/2008

After a wonderful reception cour testy of the MEN EVENT, (www.themenevent.com) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guy and I decided to go to dinner. Jumped in the car to go to Red Cat-CLOSED. So, since we were in the neighborhood and I haven't eaten there, we went across the street to Bottino (10th Avenue between 24/25, http://www.bottinonyc.com/). We were seated immediately, but both wanted to wash our hands as the rain had just started and we came out of a car without air conditioning. Ugh. The table turned out to the be the hottest (temperature) table in the restaurant, so we requested to move and found a colder spot.

The menu consisted of many scrumptious delights. We are started with the Squid and Tuna Tartar. The "CALAMARI" consisted of no sauce on the plate, but the preparation didn't require anything more than a fresh squeeze of lemon. The tuna was on a bed of watercress leaves lightly dressed with a balsamic dressing.

Dinner was accompanied by two glass of Tolosa Pinot Noir, Spaghetti Del Noir (ink spaghetti with lobster and rock shrimp)and Orrechiette (blood sausage, broccoli rabe and garlic). I had the privilege of helping him and offering his culinary delights to the guests who strolled around on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Anise Hyssop and Verbena Lemonade, amazing; the little petals of the Anise flower float around and give a hint of licorice to the mouth. Morrocan Spiced Chicken Skewer with Minted Cucumber Yogurt was another homerun to the fans of our table. And the Gazpacho Verde with Sweet Pickled Shrimp (perhaps a secret ingredient was divulged throughout the course of the night, but who is to say) was my favorite and a crowd favorite as well. Several women throughout the course of the event came back to tell Chef Corbett and myself the Gazpacho was the best thing they had all night.

I ran into Peggy Lauber (WOLFFER ESTATE WINES) who assisted me in securing more than a half case of wine before leaving. Of course I shared with others and left the case at Punch because as the night continued I was too tired to carry it home. Also, several people from the Pellegrini Vineyard, Martha Clara (ENTENMANN's), Macari, Corey Creek and Bedell just to name a few.

Good times were had by all. There was a definately attraction when we met on Pride at Nisos' restaurant over a drink with my now ex-boyfriend Michael Plunkett.

I arrived, as I do for almost everything in life, early and checked in with the hostess to alert them to my presence. Grabbed a tequila and soda and waited by the BIG BLUE WALL for Guy to arrive. Busy place, quite the scene.

Guy arrived at 8:25 and we checked in together to see if our table was ready. The hostess handed us one of those vibrating alert mechanisms and we went to the bar to get Guy a cocktail. Pomegranite Frozen Margarita! YUMMY. It was another ten minutes before we would sit, so we exchanged small talk in the crowded bar; while I looked into his deep blue eyes. Wait a minute, my knees just got weak again.

My pocket started to vibrate and we were escorted to one of the tables infront of the BIG BLUE WALL and immediately ordered some Mild Guacamole. Yummy; Warm chips and heated tortillas accompanied it to the table. We talked for another half our about our day and beginning of the summer. Ordered from the menu, Guy: Chicken Enchiladas, Steven: Tacos con Carne. Delicious; I love a big piece of rare meat with cheese and...oh wait a minute.

We finished the night at Cookshop with a Bourbon Julep and kissed all the way home to his apartment. We discussed future plans and decided that we didn't exactly fit into what the other has planned for the future. Glad we figured it out sooner than later.

Monday and Tuesday were my two days of CONFLICT NEGOTIATION classes on the Lower East Side. A class that the Department of Education (TWEED) is paying for me to attend. I am hoping to roll out the program back at PS/MS 31 in the Fall of 2008. Working with the Social Studies Curriculum to see when I can push into the classroom.

Wednesday brought lunch with Rebecca (BEX IN THE CITY) at Parea on East 20th Street between Broadway and Park Avenue South. Yummy treats. We started out with a bottle of Restino-Greek white wine-and were presented with delicious seasoned olive oil, mixture of olives-delicious-, and a firm Greek cheese accompanied by some toasted pieces of bread. Our first course of the $19.95 Prix Fixe we had Grilled Calamari with Lemon and Herbs and Spanakpoita, followed by a Crab Burger with seasoned french fries and Mousakka-traditional Greek dish. Dessert was Baklava-did I spell that correctly.

Then we were off to Punch to see my buddy Matt Corbett who is the executive chef there and holding his own in a neighborhood that is full of new and very successful restaurants. He treated us to an air dried piece of beer rubbed with extra virgin olive oil, topped with black truffles, Caesar vinaigrette, artichokes and tomato marmalade. YUM-O! A few glasses of Malbec and then I was ready to go.

MacBeth at the Clinton Castle

Well, well, well, Michael and I started our afternoon after work outs at the gym by meeting downtown by Battery Park. Stopped by the Wall Street Tiffany's store to say hello to Joel and then picked up a bite before sitting at the Pier 17 building to see the WATERFALL's along the East River. Beautiful to sit out anywhere on a beautiful day in NYC.

Stopped by the Pacific Grill for a frozen Lime Margarita and then off to the west side via Water Street and Battery Park loop before finding our destination of the Clinton Castle. I found during the day, a listing for MacBeth being performed outside in Battery Park; part of the River to River Fest. When we arrived, to not a person on line waiting for the venue, we were greeted by one of the Park Service people who told us, "they start you outside and then invite you inside to watch the balance of the performance." At that point it was time to reconfigure our evening.

We decided to head up the west side and spend the night in Hastings. Walked from Battery Park to Nisos' and had a quick tequila before hoping in the car for Westchester. Ran into Dennis, David and the usuals at the bar. Swung by the wine shop and picked up a bottle of Gruner Veltliner and a Rioja before shopping at the Fresh A&P to get the necessities for the pasta Michael would effortlessly combine for dinner. Yummy! Calamata olives, grape tomatoes, garlic, capers, fresh basil from the garden, grilled chicken and penne!

Night time for bonzo! Stay tuned for the weekend's festivities. July 4th at the Pines and weekend with the Family in Bayport.

Cannot wait to share all I have to tell about this past weekend on the Beach!

Ah the Pines!. The cocktails were flowing, people were chatting. Great to see Jonathan, G, Greg, Jeff and Kevin, just to name a few. Bought tickets to attend the PIER DANCE and also WON tickets to attend the PIER DANCE: i.e. I have two extra tickets for sale! Good times!

We left Splash and drove down to the Lower East Side to have dinner at Allen and Delancey. Yummy. Michael and I walked in the front door after exchanging a peck on the sidewalk and pulled back the heavy curtain to reveal a beautifully appointed room with a comfortable bar-the bartender seemed to be on her first shift-EVER! A friend Gerry was at the bar and then I heard my name screamed from the other side of the bar-DOES EVERYONE KNOW ME? LOL! Analise, I am sure I spelled that incorrectly, with whom I worked at Compass Restaurant before we both departed, is now employed at A&D. We waited to be served at the bar, but to no avail, so we walked to the dining room and Analise brought us to the booth in the corner surrounded by candles. Wonderful.

We were started with complimentary glasses of champagne and then looked over the menu. It terms out my buddy James is also the sommelier, but he had left for the evening. He will start at Per Se, THOMAS KELLER's restaurant in the Time Warner Building, in upcoming weeks. Looking forward to that.

Everything at Allen and Delancey was spot on. From the pretzel flavored sourdough rolls that started the evening, the champagne brought to us by the hostess, each course of culinary delicacies was better than the next and I cannot wait to come back again very soon.

Michael and I drove home up the East Side and saw this cute little orange car that I tried to get pictures of, if anyone wants pictures of it, please email me. This year I met Mrs. Rochelle Washington Smith who became my new work wife. The story is too funny to mention and must be told in person. Please ask me about it the next time you see me.

As the year comes to an end, I am sad to see so many of the people who I have worked so closely with over the past two years move on to greener pastures. Bex, one of my other work-wives is moving to San Francisco after a fun-filled summer here in NYC, Jessica K. will be moving to Buffalo to continue her education and Jessica D. secured a position on Long Island; a coveted position at a great school district.

Many of my colleagues will also be returning, but in new capacities and/or responsibilities. I look forward to collaborating with them and all of our new additions to the PS/MS 31 Family.

The next seven days bring with it anxiety and a heightened level of stress as the year comes to a close.
